The old way to create a local presence in other cities was to lease a Remote Call Forward telephone line from a service provider. This is a special type of line that is forwarded to a number at your corporate office. The costs of a Remote Call Forward number can be $15.00 per month plus long distance charges per minute. Also, if you want the capability of having more than one call forwarded at a time you would have to pay for additional call forwarding paths. The answer is SIP trunks or SIP lines. With the right SIP service provider you can have a local number for any city in the United States. If you want this number published in the local phonebook, it can cost as little as $5.00 per month, and you can have unlimited call paths across the number with no additional monthly costs and no long distance charges!

I recently employed this SIP solution for a disaster restoration company that had 15-20 Remote Call Forward lines in multiple cities. They were paying over $400.00 per month. With SIP trunks they were able to reduce this to just $50.00 per month! This saved them enough money that it cost-justified a new VoIP phone system, plus it gave them other capabilities that they didn’t have before such as telecom redundancy.
